ROSTER SET FOR WRANGLER CANADIAN RODEO TOUR FINALS
September 29, 2009
The official results from the final two regular season rodeos are in, which means the roster for the upcoming Wrangler Canadian Professional Rodeo Tour Championships has been finalized.
Contestants vying for the last two spots at the Stampede Corral-hosted Tour Finals in Calgary, Alta. rode and roped their hearts out at the Hanna Pro Rodeo and the McCord Indoor Pro Rodeo.
The battle between Lethbridge, Alta. barrel racer Rana Walter and rookie Adel Hansen, from Okotoks, Alta., ended with Walter edging out her fellow competitor by a mere five points after both cowgirls made appearances and picked up cheques at each rodeo.
Mayerthorpe, Alta. cowboy Travis Reay wrestled his way ahead of Airdrie’s Todd Maughan after his fourth place win at McCord, Sask. Reay’s five-second tackle scored the bulldogger $244 and fourth place, and enough points to take the last spot on the steer wrestling roster in Calgary.
Reay is currently in second place in the rookie of the year standings behind bull rider David Vanteinhoven.
As the result of entries for the Tour Finals, and a number of injuries in the bull riding, fourth place Last Chance cowboy Vanteinhoven was set to join the action at the Stampede Corral Oct. 2 through 4. Unfortunately, a fractured arm forced him to doctor out of both regular season rodeos and, in turn, forfeit his chance at the Championships.
Wardlow, Alta. bull rider Jason Finkbeiner, who was in 11th place, had the foresight to enter for the Tour Finals. And he’s probably just a grinning now, as he will be filling in the second Last Chance spot in Calgary this weekend.
