CAMROSE SPRING CLASSIC PRO RODEO JUMP STARTS SEASON
March 19 , 2010

Spring has sprung, and what better way to celebrate than with the latest edition of the Camrose Spring Classic Pro Rodeo.

A favourite stop on the pro rodeo trail in Alberta for more than 25 years, the Spring Classic features a number of exciting competitive events, including saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, ladies barrel racing, team roping and steer riding.

Get in on the action starting March 19 at the Camrose Regional Exhibition Grounds, located at 4250 Exhibition Drive in Camrose, Alta. The first performance starts at 7 p.m., as does the second performance on March 20. Sunday’s third and final performance begins at 2 p.m. and you won’t want to miss a minute of it, according to Marilyn Lee, events coordinator for the Camrose Regional Exhibition.

“The (rodeo committee) worked really hard,” Lee cheers of those that make the Spring Classic a reality.

“They’ve upped the purse,” she adds, “and the Sports Medicine Team is going to be here, that’s something new that just came through last Wednesday, so we’re glad that we could get them here for (the contestants).”

According to Lee, the contestant entries are above last year’s.

“We have a stronger entry this year,” she nods, “so that’s good for us to see and it’s good for the spectators.”

But those in the audience won’t just be watching and cheering from the stands. They’ll have their own chance to compete over the weekend.

“We’re doing an auction at intermission on Saturday night. Fountain Tire has given us a $1,000 certificate for tires and that money is going to be given – all proceeds – to the Cowboy Benevolent Fund. We have a little contest on Sunday called Scrambling in the Hay where we have 10 contestants going in. There’s a big tarp (covered with hay) coming out on the arena floor and they get to dive in there and they get to try and find a diamond ring,” she chuckles.

And it seems ticket buyers are looking forward to the opportunity to get active.

“Ticket sales have been strong. We’re looking forward to another really good weekend,” Lee says. “It’s a great sporting event to come and see. You don’t want to miss it!”

Tickets are just $15 and available at the arena, or in advance at the Camrose Regional Exhibition or at Lammles’ Camrose store.
