ROWAN COLLECTS AT ALL THREE RODEOS THIS WEEKEND
June 28, 2010
Reid Rowan has been quietly climbing up the Canadian bareback standings, consistently placing his way into the top three. And this weekend, the Seven Persons, Alta. cowboy inched even closer to that coveted number one spot.
Rowan collected cheques at all three Alberta rodeos, including a first place win at the 57th annual Wainwright Stampede. The bareback rider placed third in the first go-round at the Wrangler Canadian Professional Rodeo Tour stop with an 84-point ride on Big Stone Rodeo’s Tar Baby. In the finals, Rowan’s 84.5 on Outlawbuckers’ OLS Tubs Ross River took first place. He finished first in the aggregate, bringing his pay at the one rodeo to $3,622.
Rowan also picked up $313 at the Guy Weadick Memorial Pro Rodeo in High River, after his 79-point ride on Big Country Rodeo’s Sam took seventh place. He placed fifth at the Sundre Pro Rodeo with a 77-point ride on Franklin Rodeo’s Leaning Tower, adding another $673 to his weekend winnings.
Also at Sundre, Marty Becker set a new standard in the tie-down roping. His time of 6.8 seconds not only earned the cowboy a first place cheque for $2,322, it nudges out JC Crowley’s 7.6-second run earlier this year as the fastest tie-down time of the 2010 season.
The Cardston, Alta. roper also earned some coin in the team roping with partner Bobby Alexander of Redmond, Ore. The pair placed fourth with a time of 4.8 seconds. The father-son team of Don and Steele DePaoli, from Longview, Alta., won the event in 4.3 seconds, worth $3,405.
