GRIMSHAW, IRRICANA AND LA CRETE RODEO ACTION ON THE HORIZON
August 6, 2010
Robin Saunders, secretary for the North Peace Stampede, has been looking forward to the annual event in Grimshaw, Alta. every year since she was a young girl.
“We’ve always been a rodeo family, and since I was really little we’ve always been excited to go and watch,” she says.
The rodeo, held at the Lac Cardinal Rodeo Grounds just outside of town is celebrating 54 years, and has always been something people in the area “wait for every year,” she enthuses.
“I would say my favourite part of the rodeo is the rodeo itself” Saunders states, “the final product.
“We put a lot of hard work into it to keep it going.”
Both performances at the North Peace Stampede start at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday, and feature saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, ladies barrel racing and team roping, as well as novice saddle bronc and novice bareback riding.
The Irricana Humps & Horns Bullnanza takes over the town of Irricana, Alta. at 7 p.m. on Saturday for a one-night only bull riding event.
Event organizer Michelle Ferber says this is the event’s 11th year and “we have a really great line up of bull riders.”
It’s also “the biggest event in the community itself each year, so it draws a huge crowd and the people just love it.”
The Field of Dreams Stampede runs from Monday, Aug. 9 to Tuesday, Aug. 10 in La Crete, Alta. Performances start each night at 7:00 p.m.
