It was a ‘bounce-back’ night for three Canadian cowboys in the second round of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Tyrel Larsen, the Manitoba bronc rider who was bucked off in round one, posted a solid 81.5 points on Rocky Mountain Rodeo’s Sabre. That score earned Larsen a third place cheque of $15,653. The round winner was rookie, CoBurn Bradshaw who teamed up with C5 Rodeo’s Curly Bill for 83 points and the top cheque of $26,320. Zeke Thurston is two for two in bronc riding but was well back of the round two leaders with a 54 point score. Jake Wright, who was third in the opening round, bucked off the Calgary Stampede perennial finalist Gross Beetle.

In the steer wrestling, Cochrane, Alberta’s Tanner Milan was 3.7 seconds for a 3/4 split that earned the two time Canadian Champion $13,326. Milan was out of the money with a 6.1 in the first round. Round two was split between five time World Champion Luke Branquinho and Hunter Cure, another former world champion. Both were 3.5 seconds.

And in bareback riding, Clint Laye of Cadogan, Alberta, who missed his horse out in the opening round, rode Beutler and Sons’ Hollywood Hills to 81 points - good for fifth in the round and $6769. Steven Peebles won the round with 84.5. Orin Larsen, the other Canadian in the bareback riding, was well of the pace with a 56 score. Two Calgary Stampede bareback horses performed well in the second go-round. Soap Bubbles carried Austin Foss to 82 points and a third place finish while Trail Dust combined with Tim O’Connell for 79 points - good for a sixth place cheque.

In the barrel racing, Deb Guelly (Okotoks, Alberta) posted a 14.21 to finish ninth in the round and out of the money. (Michelle Mcleod won round two with a 13.89.

Big Stone Rodeo’s Canadian Bull of the Year, Sheep Creek bucked off Caleb Sanderson in a round that saw only one successful ride. Clayton Foltyn won the round with 76.5.
