CFR Payout Increases for 2024

May 3, 2024 l Airdrie, AB
For immediate release

With the 2024 edition of the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) set for October 2-5 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) is excited to announce an increase to the contestant payout from $1,455,00 (2023) to $1,508,000.

$1,480,000 in total will be paid out in the major events (Bareback, Saddle Bronc, Bull Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Ladies Barrel Racing and Team Roping). An additional $28,000 will be spread across the three junior events (Novice Bareback and Saddle Bronc and Steer Riding).

All of these numbers are exclusive of the Breakaway Roping payout which will feature the top twelve contestants in all performances. But BAW prize money will come from a separate bucket of money, partially funded by the CPRA and partially funded through the efforts of the breakaway ropers themselves.

CPRA General Manager Denny Phipps notes, "The CFR is one of the highest paying rodeos in the world where the top twelve athletes in major events, top six Steer Riders, and top three Novice Bareback and Saddle Bronc riders via for high dollars and Canadian Championships."

Payout:

  • 7 Major events (BB, SB, BR, TDR, SW, TR, LBR) will be $185,000/event (per side in the Team Roping) for a total of $1,480,000.
  • Novice BB and NSB (featured in the first 3 performances) - $9,000/event
  • Steer Riding (featured in the first four performances) - $10,000
