July, 2015
I am pleased to announce to our members, fans and supply partners that we recently held the first meeting of our new CPRA, Pro Rodeo Canada Business Advisory Council.
Our council is made up of some of the most influential and powerful business leaders in Canada; we met as a group for the first time on June 29th in Airdrie, Alberta.
There were two main priorities that we wanted to address at our first meeting. First, we wanted to share a short summary on the current status of the CPRA as a Professional Sports Association. We also wanted to share with the Council our view of the overall health and marketability of the sport of Rodeo.
The business council was unanimous in expressing that Pro Rodeo Canada needed to make operational changes to a system that has hindered our growth for many years. Council members agreed with our assessment of what the needed changes were and endorsed our taking action in 2015 to quickly implement those changes.
With respect to our short and long term Pro Rodeo Canada growth strategies, the Business Council provided valuable insights around our strategies and strongly supported our vision for the future. They also shared that our future growth goals were something they would fully recommend and endorse. In the days that have followed since our initial Business Advisory Council meeting, I have received several emails and phone calls from various members of the Council reiterating their support and offering even more assistance as needed. Exciting times for sure for our association and our sport.
As Pro Rodeo Canada continues to implement much needed changes that will strengthen our association, we would ask for the continued support of our fans, our valued members and our marketing partners. To assist in expediting these changes, we have recently hired an outside accounting firm (with rodeo experience) to come into our organization and make administrative recommendations as to how we can better serve our members. Some of the immediate tasks they will be working on include revisiting our current payout procedures, creating a faster system of updating standings and facilitating detailed cross training for our staff so they can learn several job functions. Please have patience with our Pro Rodeo Canada team as we move forward towards our goal of a stronger, more efficient, more value added, membership driven Canadian association.
