2015 WRANGLER NATIONAL FINALS RODEO RESULTS - Round Five

Kaycee FeildBig Night For Canadian Horses

As the 2015 WranglerNFR reached the halfway point, a couple of old friends got together to dominate the bareback riding. Kaycee Field, the Spanish Fork, Utah, four time world champion climbed aboard the sensational Calgary Stampede mare, Reckless Margie. The pair had met twice before with Field taking home first place money both times. The duo made it three for three with a spectacular 91 point ride in the fifth round. Of his third 90 plus point WNFR ride (this one equalled the second highest mark ever in the bareback riding), Field had this to say, “This is number one. I’ve been feeing the pressure from Steven (Peebles) and I knew I had to go out and ride tough and do my job - and then with my Dad being sick, this ride is pretty special. He’s been watching on TV every night, and I think he’s about worn out his recliner by now.”

The $26,231 payday kept the second generation champ atop the world standings with a $20,000 margin over second place Peebles who sits first in the average - ten points up on Field. This is race that will likely go down to the last rides on the two leaders next Saturday. Also in the bareback riding, Manitoba’s Orin Larsen posted an 80 score but was out of the money while Cadogan, Alberta’s Clint Laye saw his string of placings end at three as his 77.5 fell short of the money spots on this night.

The Rank Bareback Horse of the Night award went to Calgary Stampede's Special Delivery. The Grated Coconut-Zippy Delivery stallion made short work of Hillsboro, Texas cowboy Jake Brown.

In the steer wrestling, a 3.3 topped the field for the second night in a row. This time it was KC Jones who also won round one with a 3.4 second run. Jones climbed to third in the world (trailing leader Ty Erickson by $18,000) but is out of the average, also led by Erickson.

Cochrane, Alberta’s Tanner Milan was solid with a 4.3, but was unable to add to his $22,000 in WNFR earnings in what was a very rapid round.

Four time Canadian Champion Lisa Lockhart of Oelrichs, SD inched closer to her first world title finishing second in the fifth round with a 13.75. Lockhart remains the world and average leader after five performances. Okotoks cowgirl Deb Guelly turned in a 14.35 second run but out of the money.

The bronc riding had its own 90 point ride. CoBurn Bradshaw, the 20 year old sensation from Beaver, Utah; conquered a seven year old mare, Wound Up, from Beutler and Sons for the win. Neither of the Canadians in the bronc riding were able to cash cheques as Tyrel Larsen marked a 78 while Zeke Thurston managed a 73. But a couple of Canadian broncs were spectacular. Three time Horse of the Year in Canada, Outlaw Buckers’ Lunatic Party, bucked off Cort Scheer of Ellesmere, Neb in a re-match. The trip earned the 10 year old paint mare Rank Horse of the Night - the second such award to go to Canadian contractors in the fifth round. And the Calgary Stampede’s superstar, Stampede Warrior put Bradley Harter on the ground prior to the eight second horn. Harter has struggled at this finals.

Two Canadians continue to shine in non-competitive roles at this year’s WNFR. Trick rider Madison MacDonald and bull fighter Aaron Ferguson have both played significant roles in returning appearances.
