2015 WRANGLER NATIONAL FINALS RODEO RESULTS

Wrangler NFR Dec 3 Round 1 Re-Cap

WNFR Opening NightIt wasn’t quite the night the Canadian contingent hoped for to kickoff the 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Clint Laye the Cadogan, Alberta bareback rider and Tyrel Larsen the Manitoba saddle bronc rider both came up with no scores on Thursday night, Laye disqualified for missing out his horse, HiLo Pro Rodeo’s Wilson Sanchez and Larsen bucking off the Canadian bronc, Big Stone Rodeo’s Rubels.

In the steer wrestling, two time Canadian champion, Tanner Milan overshot his opening night steer but was able to avert disaster by getting hold of the steer and twisting him down in 6.1 seconds. No money for the first time qualifier but his quick reaction kept him alive in the average.

And in the barrel racing, Okotoks cowgirl, Deb Guelly, started her sixth Wrangler National Finals with a penalty as she hit  barrel that took her to a total time of 19.29  run on Oscar, a horse belonging to Kathleen Collier.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Canadians, however, as the younger Larsen brother, Orin, posted an 81 point ride on the Growney Brothers bareback horse Wild n Blue and split 3/4/5/6 to cash a $9400 cheque.

Zeke Thurston of Big Valley rode his first-ever NFR saddle bronc, Wayne Vold’s former Canadian champion, Pedro, to 74 points, not high enough to get a cheque in the round.

Rubels wasn’t the only Canadian bronc that proved to be a handful as Kesler Rodeo’s Nickels and Dimes put the #2 bronc rider in the regular season standings, Rusty Wright, on the ground before the eight second horn. While another Kesler horse, Garden Party, teamed up with Stephen Peebles for an 81 score and part of the 3/4/5/6 split in the bareback riding.

Canadian champion tie down roper, Shane Hanchey of Sulphur, Louisiana rode T.J., a horse owned by Maynard and Logan Bird of Nanton, Alberta to a 7.5 second run, good for fifth in the round and a $6700 payday.
